Codex is OpenAI's agentic coding product: you hand it a task and it works in an isolated cloud sandbox with your repository, running tests and iterating before opening a pull request. Because each task gets its own container, several can run in parallel while you carry on with something else, which changes the rhythm of the work from pairing to delegating. It also ships as a CLI and IDE extension for people who want the agent local rather than remote.
